1. I know you, but some people may not. So could you please introduce yourself to the world? "I am grateful and proud to be from a family of actors and art lovers. My early career was spent happily acting onstage and at the Stratford and Shaw Festivals. After my son was born, I focussed on TV and film work so I’d have my weekends free to be home ( working in theatre is a 6 day a week commitment with such late hours). Some of my favourite shows to have worked on include Netflix’s The Healing Powers of Dude; Arrow; Van Helsing; Somewhere Between; Caprica; Life Unexpected; Smallville; The L Word; Poltergeist; Madison; Peacemakers; and Mysterious Ways. Recently I was thrilled to be the recipient of 2019 and 2018 consecutive Leo Award nominations for Best Supporting Performance in a Dramatic Series for Netflix’s Van Helsing and for ABC’s Somewhere Between, and prior for my role as Sheriff Adams for five seasons on CW’s Smallville. My debut short film, A Mother's Love which I wrote and directed took me on an exciting new path and to the Vail Film Festival, Manhattan Film Festival, Madrid International Film Festival and LA Women's International Film Festival and it earned the Best Drama Award at London's SuperShorts Festival. Isn’t Life an amazing gift?" 2. What was your first job in the entertainment industry? Also, what did you do before that? "In Vancouver, I was lucky to get my first professional acting jobs while I was still a theatre student at the University of British Columbia (UBC). I was hired by director Richard Ouzounian to play April in Company at the David H. Y. Lui Theatre in Vancouver which got me my Actor’s Equity card and I was hired for a CBC movie of the week which got me my ACTRA card. At the time, balancing studies and scripts was hard but it was all so exciting... and who needs sleep when you’re 21?" 3. Did you study acting before getting into the industry? "At UBC Vancouver’s theatre department which has a fantastic acting program." 4. If you could work with anyone you'd want, who would that person be and why? "My father, the late Hollywood veteran Cameron Mitchell. Although we often read plays together and improvised for fun at home, I never got to act with him onscreen. He had such passion for acting and knew so much." 5. What does a normal day in your life looks like? "<Normal> varies depending on where I am and what I’m working on but I always try to start my day early with a mediation and then some writing and somewhere in there a long walk, or ideally a hike in the woods, with my dog - I really need those three things to stay on track." 6. Where is your favorite place to be and why? "Any forest. I love the exquisite beauty, the peace and the order; how “nature never rushes but she gets everything done”. My idea of Heaven." 7. If you could, what would be the one advice you would want to give to your younger self? "Get a life and enjoy it because it will all work out." 8. What is one of the best advice that you've got? "Who was the person that gave it to you? —- My Mother, who told me, <You never eat it as hot as it’s cooked>. Nothing is ever as bad as you fear it will be... yay!" 9. What is your biggest accomplishment so far? "My family.. and quitting smoking." 10. If you could book any role in the next years to come, what would that dream role be? "I’d love to work with my son Charlie Joe Mitchell. I know I’m his Mum but he is a brilliant director and film-maker and I often seek his wise insights on roles I’m working on." 11. Is there anything you can disclose about the new project that you are promoting? "I’m very excited about “The Healing Powers of Dude” - a very funny quirky charming series which premieres on Netflix this Monday January 13th. It has a wonderful cast leading with Tom Everett Scott and Larissa Oleynik who plays my daughter and Jace Chapman." 12. What is the best part about life on set? "The excitement of pulling off a good scene when everyone.. cast and crew.. are happy with what they did. That.. and the amazing catering!" 13. In the end, is there anything you'd like to say to the people who support you? "I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support - without you, none of this matters and I wish you and yours a truly wonderful 2020!"
