1. I know you, but some people may not. So could you please introduce yourself to the world? "My name is Aadila and I am an actress... however I do prefer actor... filmmaker, and sometimes outspoken and very opinionated ”activitst” in my own right." 2. What was your first job in the entertainment industry? Also, what did you do before that? "My first job in the industry was a Murder Mystery play I did in Grade 8. I cannot for the life of me tell you the name of the play but I saw it was my first job because it was one of those where you had to interact with the audience in character – I was playing a Reporter – and I distinctly remember taking a photo of an audience member and she tipped me! It was a polariod I gave to her and... BOOM! There you have it... my first paid acting gig. Before that I did a lot of Kumon and to be honest, I think way too many chores for my allowance. " 3. Did you study acting before getting into the industry? "I did! I went to the Unversity of Toronto St. George Campus Theatre Program. It was most certainly... defining. But of course my Junior High and High School Drama days were where I knew I didn’t really want to do anything else but be on stage, perform, make people laugh... and back then be in the spotlight. BOY have I come a long way... spotlight. What an interesting thing that is." 4. If you could work with anyone you'd want, who would that person be and why? "OH MYLANTA. That is legit a tough one! Hmmm... if I HAD to choose one person... it would be Kajol. If you don’t know her... you do now! She is my all time favorite Bollywood actress. Bollywood films were some of the first I started to watch with my family, besides re-runs of Bambi of course. I was obsessed with her – and still am. She is, to me, the most captivating actress I have seen on screen. She has this magic within her that makes you not want to tear your eyes away from her. She's HILARIOUS, SMART, a legit werido sometimes (points of similarities... maybe?) and well just stunning. I love how relatable she is and that everyone has a bit of her in them... woman, man, child, alien." 5. What does a normal day in your life looks like? "COFFEE... COFFEE... COFFEE... maybe a workout (lets be real... not doing it everyday and well... whatever), answering emails to clients I coach, get all my outfits sorted for the day of auditioning (sometimes several, sometimes a couple, sometimes one, sometimes none), on those heavy audition days jump around from one audition to a next, calling my girlfriend and saviour Emma to run lines, grabbing a smoothy, sometimes not. On days I don’t have any auditions I will coach clients and work in Casting. Get home... but not without a lettuce wrapped teen burger from A&W (staple), put on some Brave Housewives, stare at a wall for an hour, prep for the next day and sleep. OH... none of that is without any wine. Ever." 6. Where is your favorite place to be and why? "I feel like I have a few. But my happiest is near water. Near sand and sun and my loved ones surrounding me. Nothing better." 7. If you could, what would be the one advice you would want to give to your younger self? "Never second guess them initial gut feelings, they are the only guides you have that no one else controls. To journal about the best of times and worst of times & to keep writing even when you smashed your laptop because of how much you hated your words. OH and to save that money... even a dollar a day. Savings Accounts are a thing. SAVE A DOLLA A DAY YA’LL." 8. What is one of the best advice that you've got? Who was the person that gave it to you? "<Always have an exit plan> - my dad." 9. What is your biggest accomplishment so far? "Being a full time working actor. It’s everything I and my 5 year old self have ever wanted... and now that I have accomplished it I can’t wait to see what else the world has waiting for me. I know that sounds crazy... but I have always lived to work and for the first time in my life I am understanding what it means when humanoids work to live... and it is flippin’ divine!" 10. If you could book any role in the next years to come, what would that dream role be? "A sitcom with Mayim Bialik. Her brain turns me on. One of the women I look up to... a beauty & brain! #funnyandsmartisathingpeople" 11. Is there anything you can disclose about your new film FALL BACK DOWN? "OHHHHH... I WISH I COULD... except for what’s out there... ya’ll have to come watch! I promise it won’t disappoint... what I can say is nothing is ever as it seems...!!!" 12. Any other new projects that you would like to share? "I just completed a film, Godfrey, directed by the man who I believe created the phenomenon of reality TV, who I so love, Ken Mok. It is such a raw, human, gritty, real, hilarious, film and I cannot wait for everyone to see it! Everyone on this project from our PA’s to AD’s to Gaffers to the Camera Opps to the Leads to the Day Players were AMAZING. There was no small part on this set and it was such an incredible energy to be surrounded by." 13. What is the best part about life on set? "One word... CRAFTY! Well... one of the many great parts about life on set... food is my life. But truly... as a filmaker... listening, watching and learning what it takes to run a well oiled machine. I love academia and learning and I love watching how every department operates and how actors who I look up to work. It is such a treat being able to watch and learn. No class or workshop or seminar compares. And... getting my makeup done. #REALTALK" 14. In the end, is there anything you'd like to say to the people who support you? "I’d say... THANK YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK for supporting the emotional octopus I am!"
