1. I know you, but some people may not.
So could you please introduce yourself to the world?

”Hello, I am Andrea!  I am a European born, Canadian actress, most recently playing Irina on NBC’s Debris (2 more episodes to air)  and Marcella/Velvet in American Badger. I am a producer, Mental health and Sobriety advocate, an acting coach/teacher and a writer.”

2, What was your first job in the entertainment industry?
Also, what did you do before that?

”That was so long ago. Back in Slovakia, when I was 12ish, I used to be a regular guest on a  TV Talk show for kids, where I would bring and introduce a dog in need of a home and talk about animal adoption. I was terrified each time. I already performed as a dancer earlier though, when I was 8 or 9 and kept doing that up until my late teens. The only other job I had was working as a model, which I don’t anymore. I had some Joe jobs at some point while acting though of course.”

3. Did you study acting before getting into the industry?

”I studied after I had entered the industry. Because I was a model, I was being brought to read for some roles wherever I was. It was just fun for me, I was quite clueless, but I did book despite of that. Sadly, I had no work etiquette, which prompted me to start studying. I really liked acting and knew I had to be trained to be able to only do that one day. I wanted to be excellent and remembered for my talent. I was so intrigued by the world of film and television that I decided back then to get to know how everything works from behind to in-front of the camera. And I did.”

4. If you could work with anyone you'd want,
who would that person be and why?

”If I share my wish then it won’t come true. It’s more than one person, it’s quite a few including some of my industry friends.”

5. What does a normal day in your life looks like?

”I always  drink a big glass of water with lemon when I wake up, have a healthy breakfast with coffee and then no matter what I have to do, I take my dog Harlie for a big walk/play. I try to exercise at some point during the day, at least 3 times a week, no particular time. My days vary, I often have Zoom meetings or work I have to do on my own on my computer, self-taped and voice auditions, sometimes there are set days, Covid tests, fittings, adrs, or locations scouts, etc other times I coach/tape and teach actors. I am very busy and always have work to do. And then I also take care of our house, go grocery shopping, cook, clean, and so on.”

6. Where is your favorite place to be and why?

”I love my home, it’s peaceful, quiet and safe. I love being with people I love, it fills me with joy and more love. I love being in nature, it’s grounding and inspiring, beautiful beach is like magic for me, and I love being on set, LOVE, it completes me with all of the above.”

7. If you could, what would be the one advice
you would want to give to your younger self?

”Take your time. Enjoy the process and growth with its ups and downs. It’s okay to say no. It’s okay not to be okay. Speak up. Be yourself and be proud of who you are, own it. Oh and take it easy on the partying... drugs and alcohol only steal from you and steal you from you. Accept the things you cannot change and have the courage to change the things you can.”

8. What is one of the best advice that you've got?
Who was the person that gave it to you?

”To be myself and be okay with who I am. The first person who told me this would be my mum and dad. I am lucky to have received a lot of great advice throughout my life, from various people at various times. I wish I took some of the advice when it was given to me, but that’s not how it works in life.”

9. What is your biggest accomplishment so far?

”Getting clean and sober and forgiving to myself and people who have hurt me. That was huge. Letting it all go and leave it in the past where it belongs.”

10. If you could book any role in the next years to come,
what would that dream role be?

”I would love to do another feature film, with international cast, or be a regular on a new series. OMG, something shooting in Europe. And the type of role? Someone intelligent, strong, broken and vulnerable. A complex character, but not a victim.”

11. Is there anything you can disclose about your new project, American Badger?

”Yes, I can! It’s certainly one for action fans. It premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival in Europe, the US release date is on June 15th, 2021. Canadian release details cannot be disclosed yet, but it’s exciting and will be this year! American Badger has a sister film called American Velvet, which hasn’t been released just yet. The films were shot at the same time, yet the story lines are very different. One is pure action and the other one is more of an art-house drama and I think each one will appeal to a different audience with some cross-section I’d think.”

12. Can you describe Marcella Horvathova,
your character on American Badger, in three
 words?

”Marcella/Velvet is complicated and broken yet hopeful and strong.”

13. What can you tell us about your character from Debris?

”Irina is an obscure character, an experienced, smart and calculated Russian secret agent, who has a mysterious past with Maddox (played by Norbert Leo Butz) whom she is doing some important business with. She is completely unpredictable until the very end.”

14. As a Romanian, I am curious, did you learn any cool facts
about Romania while filming Kidnapped in Romania?

”Oh, I loved filming in Romania. Most of the crew was Romanian. They were pros on set and fun and down to earth people off set. I didn’t really have time to explore at all unfortunately. A country of such history. The food was very good! We were filming in and nearby the city called Roman in Neamt County. I got to spend some time with Maia Morgenstern, who was in the film as well. She is a true artist. She took me to a theatre to see a play in a city I will not remember now unfortunately. It was a big night to honor someone, maybe it was in Piatra Neamt. I speak Italian, so I understood a lot more Romanian than I realized I would, which was really cool! I hope to be back to film something else and see more of your beautiful country.
Interesting fact. I noticed lots of good skincare and skin supplements. Very good stuff.”

15. What is the best part about life on set?

”For me, it’s exciting. I am so grateful and happy when I am acting on set. I love the other work I do too, but acting is a real treat. I feel like a little kid in a candy store. It’s magical to see how a show or a movie comes together. So much work goes into it, so many people that work hard for long hours on and off set. People is a big part of  what I love on sets. Not just the actors or directors, it’s the crew! You meet great people and connect in a relatively short time and you may or may not ever see them again. It’s always bitter sweet at the end.”

16. What is your favorite part of your job and why?

”I love becoming the character. The process that goes into it when I take the words off the page and create the character’s world and then connecting with another actor. It’s the best. It’s amazing that we turn a written script into a movie, right? I love it!”

17. How is your job different now, during the pandemic?
Did it change the vibe around set?

”My job itself is the same, but the vibe is a little different for sure. For starters, you don’t really get to see anyone at all, because everyone is masked. The Covid protocols are strict on most sets, so it’s just a new normal we are getting used to including the constant testing. Everyone is more careful, more distanced and there is a little nervousness because of it I feel like.”

18. In the end, is there anything you'd like to say to the people who support you?

”Yes. I love YOU. Thank you so much for your on-going support. I am humbled by the love I receive. It really means the world to me and I appreciate you very much.”
